"Growing up, my dad had these flower beds on one side of our outdoor patio. I never paid much attention to them, but I knew he bought them from K-Mart. I would go with him sometimes. I never really looked closely at them, but that wasn’t the reason I never paid much attention.

The reason was, on that small patio, we had a basketball hoop set up. I was obsessed with basketball. I must have played every day for twenty years. In the snow, in the rain, one hundred degrees in the middle of the summer… it didn’t matter.

My dad would always say, 'watch out for the flowers'. I tried, but eventually, we’d have to make a trip back to K-Mart to replace what me and my basketball had destroyed. Anyway, this is how I remember them. They were in his garden that he shared with me and my basketball." - KURZ
